Always Wanting More: The Insatiable Desire

From the moment we are born, our lives are shaped by a constant pursuit of satisfaction. We are always looking for something more, something better, something different.

This urge to have more is a fundamental part of human nature and will drive some of the greatest achievements in your life. But it also has a negative side, leading us to feel unfulfilled and unhappy because we are always craving more.

So how do we find a balance between the desire for more and the need for contentment?

The key is to recognize that the pursuit of more is not inherently good or bad; it is simply a part of human nature.

Rather than trying to suppress or ignore this desire, we should embrace it, but also learn to channel it in positive ways. This could mean setting achievable goals, while also being grateful and showing gratitude for what you already have.

The next big thing is always on our minds. From the minute we wake up, we are focused on our daily endeavors instead of our peaceful morning routines. When we are going about our days, we rarely stop to appreciate the present moment.

Living in your head is how I like to think of it.

Constantly thinking about the past or the future takes us away from the present and rips us from true joy.

We are constantly wanting more.

More money, more followers, more friends, more anything.

It’s so interesting how we think these things are going to instantly change your life or make all of your dreams come true. I feel like every amazon order I make is going to complete my life.

But when we get it, it doesn’t make your life perfect. It usually disappoints us.

“No ego can last for long without the need for more. Therefore, wanting keeps the ego alive much more than having. The ego wants to want more than it wants to have.” - Eckhart Tolle

If you look for more, you’ll find it.

No matter how much money you have, you could always have more.

No matter how much power you have you could have more.

No matter how attractive you are you could be more attractive.

Because this world is filled with endless opportunities we can get so caught up in not appreciating the ones right in front of us.

When MORE is the goal, you will never arrive.

Like the line “tomorrow never comes” and “more never comes”

How do we stop chasing more and be more present?

  1. Chase peace, not excitement (or a thrill)

  2. Show gratitude

  3. Focus on the present

  4. Cherish the little things in life

  5. Stop comparing your life to others

When wanting more consumes you, and controls you, that is when it is an issue.

Sometimes I find I only really want something because I see someone else has it. And when it arrives or when I get their lifestyle, I am disappointed.

Don’t set yourself up for failure. Live in the now, and have gratitude for everything.

Love you all

Elle
